Squeaky Clean | Clean Action | Mini Tut | AMP Actions

October 23, 2010

Every photographer has their own style- something that brings their signature to an image. My ‘clean’ will not be everyone’s version of clean. This is how I use my own proofing action CLEAN to clean up my digital images.

Clean is for full Photoshop only. I do have a lot of Elements compatible actions for you to play with and I was going to make a Clean action for Elements but after seeing such gorgeous results from Amanda at Everyday Elements- I urge you to go get hers! I’m not even going to try. I am not well versed in clean processing in Elements- she is. So if you have Elements and want a good Clean action to help you improve your workflow…go to Everyday Elements and check out what Amanda has for you!

I will say upfront I am not a curves user. I use levels, color balance and selective color to tweak exposures, colors and tones. That’s my workflow. If you use curves. you can still follow along because I actually include several curves layers for you to use. 😀

I run all my images through Lightroom. In varying degrees. Sometimes I don’t even need to clean up much in PS after LR…but I still usually run a color balance and eye pop on most images. And also to remove color casts and whiten teeth. (that’s all in the proofing action Clean). The entire set has the proofing action Clean as well as most of them broken down into individual actions…so you will also find as stand alones: eye pop, 3 color pops, 1 less color (sometimes you want less),

This looks fantastic! I have only really used LR and have just been using PS the last couple of weeks but feel completely clueless really on working the masks, levels, and have no idea how to use a plug-on! Thank you for giving us a great little look at your workflow.

Beautiful picture and gorgeous processing! You are amazing, Amy!

Thank you for sharing my site. You’re the bestest!

I’ve been trying to purchase one of your action sets but somehow the purchase site isn’t working. It won’t open.

I bought this action and I use it on all of my photos. Thanks for the Tut on this action. I’m just learning photoshop and photography at the same time and you make it all seem so simple. :)

Photoshop | New Release | Beyond Shades of Gray for CS3-CS5 and PSE6-PSE8

September 9, 2010

My first ever black and white action set for Photoshop is here! Months in the making. Yes I take my time and tweak and tweak until it’s ‘just so’. :) A little bit of a perfectionist I am.

In this set, there is a little bit of everything. Crisp and clean- true black and whites. Some tinted black and whites. A few vintage. And some extremely delicious hazes that look stunning on the clean black and whites. I just love love love these hazes! Little Boy Blue, Sweet Pink, Sheer and Sage Hazes. And even a really subtle but lovely blue tint for those who like cooler black and whites. I even stuffed in my oldie but goodie (and oh so popular) freebie- Simply B&W and the massive haze and tint action that comes with it.

I do most of my black and whites in Lightroom, but when I convert in in Photoshop this is the set I use almost all. the. time. There are a couple sweet little BW actions hiding in my A Little Sugar and Just Beachy action sets that I love to use also.

A few tips: If the midtones are a little dim, I personally find that adding a brightness/contrast adjustment layer and bumping up the brightness almost completely solves that dimness. Usually I use Levels (my most used adjustment layer in my workflow bar none) but I just find the brightness/contrast adjustment just ‘the’ thing to give it that perfect midtone lift.

Using the dodge n burn action is so fantastic I routinely play it out on ALL my edits. I usually have something I can use it on.

TRY the haze/tint action to create your own stunning tinted black and whites. Chocolate, vanilla, espresso, plum…it’s ALL in there. Use different combos for your own signature black and white. As I say with all my actions and presets- make them yours. I may have created the action or preset but I make everything in a way that the artist using them has full control over the results.

Some samples:

This set has 12 black and white actions and 12 mini actions.
