dog days of summer | wordless wednesday

traditionally speaking the “dog days of summer” was coined for the hottest period of the summer.

usually late july to late august. but in some areas that go could through september.

i spent a lot of my childhood in ohio. summers were humid. we didn’t usually have air conditioning. we had box fans in windows. we slept in tank tops and shorts.

sprinklers. local swimming pool all day long. ice cream. frozen koolaide pops. real sun tea. watermelon. seed spitting contests. cruising the neighborhood on our huffies with our hot pink plastic sunglasses.

catching grasshoppers. playing tag. capturing lightening bugs at night.

now that was summer.

i look back and appreciate my childhood summers. they were not full of activities planned. we chilled. relaxed. took each day as it came. were kids. we entertained ourselves. it was pretty awesome.

i thought it would be a fun little project to do a wordless wednesday post illustrating the dog days of summer with images of OUR kids and OUR families.

and if you don’t have ‘kids’ maybe your furbabies? or maybe whatever is summer to you?

i also thought doing it as a blog hop would keep it rolling. fun. interesting. see what other families do during the hot hot months of summer.

you can join me or now. :) i thought it would

Amy, I meant to say, when I posted on here a few weeks ago, that I love your description of summers in Ohio. I too spent several summers there as a child and you said it all perfectly, as if I was right back there….”no a/c, box fans in the windows, etc and the lightening bugs”!!! Oh, I so remember those and they were everywhere..not here in Houston :(. Thanks for refreshing some old memories! 😉
