Tips&Tricks Section
(send me yours and if it’s super helpful- I’ll add it!)
-Velvia Color is best on non-people photos
-Dapper Dresser brush works awesome on clothing that got a little too bright. Pulls out a little more color and detail and pushes back the brightness.
-using Brushes is a cinch! If you need a stronger effect of any brush simply click NEW and swipe again! I do this with the bokeh brushes all the time!
-use the Bokehlicious brush to smooth out the background and make it look like you shot more open than you did. Swipe it twice to make it even smoother.
-the Auto presets work great after playing an {aio} preset to tweak the results. The blacks/contrast usually is right on the money. The Auto Brightness sometimes gets it right, sometimes it’s a miss. The auto presets use LR’s own algorithms to determine the result. So if it didn’t get you closer to where you want to be hit CTRL Z to undo the last effect.![]()
- use the Auto presets to fine tune quickly before moving onto the Right Panel for your final tweaking.
-when using Brushes, remember to click NEW before switching to another brush.
-gorgeous skin in one click! want to make that portrait soft&sweet? use the clarity | ethereal preset. it adds just a touch of overall glow that doesn’t go ‘glamour shots by deb’ on ya. put some clarity back in the eyes and clothes if you like by grabbing your bring out the details brush and swiping the items you want to bring back the snap on.
-us chicks like healthy glowing hair. try the hair tonic brush on the hair and see if that doesn’t add a little bounce!
-like emerald toned grass or have an image with sad looking grass? use the grass is always greener brush on the grass ONLY and watch it perk up right before your eyes!
-brush effects are NOT permanent. they are masks! apply a brush and it’s not strong enough or it’s too strong? look in the brush panel and adjust the sliders after applying the brush. if you apply the brush first and then tweak you will see better what you are doing.
-another brush tip! when you are currently in the brush tool- go down to the left just underneath your image. see where it says Show Edit Pins? that’s a menu. you can tell lightroom how you want it to show your pins and when. sweet right?
-newborn tip using Lr4 SC presets: newborns are often a little red right? first fix the exposure and white balance. then use the Oh Baby preset to get you started. still red? use the Magenta Baby brush- set to 50% opacity. need more? click new and swipe as many times on the skin as needed. smooth the skin a bit use the Skin So Smooth brush. Oh Baby might have washed out that cute little hat or prop- just use the Dapper Dresser brush to bring it all back. Burn the lash line with Burn Barely brush. sometimes i like to brush the Saturation brush on the lips to bring back a little more color. Use the OPACITY feature to increase or decrease a brush’s effects.
